Kay Halloran (Kathleen Chapman) was elected as the mayor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States in November 2005. She is a Democrat and former state legislator,[1][2] and a member of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition,[3] an organization formed in 2006 and co-chaired by New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston mayor Thomas Menino.
She was the first woman to enter into a private law practice in Cedar Rapids, and is the city's second woman mayor.
On Monday, August 3, 2009 the 72 year old Halloran had surgery for her breast cancer. The surgery was a success and the mayor is speaking with her doctors about further radiation treatment.
